BAKING TEAM MEMBER
Are you passionate about baking real bread? Do you dream of being in an empowering workplace, set up to benefit the workers who run it and to support their local community? Then we want to hear from you!
We are excited to be recruiting for a part-time role in our Baking Team within our well-established workers’ co-op. We specialise in handmade sourdough breads, but are constantly developing our product offering to support our increasing retail offer.
This is a fast-paced and physically demanding role – but a rewarding one too. We’re looking for someone who is really passionate about and committed to making standout baked goods and to working well in a great team of people.
The main focus of the role will be working on our bench – weighing dough, hand shaping loaves/rolls and prepping various other products as needed. We are looking for a conscientious person able to prioritise tasks and manage the bread throughout the shift, including proving. We may have future opportunities available to the right candidate to extend baking knowledge further including training in other sections of the bakery and/or delivering educational classes (subject to agreement from members).
We are a small team and are looking for someone who is well-organised, able to manage their time well and work to schedule, along with being responsive and positive – and have fun along the way!
We are looking to fill a part-time position of minimum 20 hours per week (up to 24 hours per week available depending on interest/experience in secondary teams), for a fixed term 12 month contract (subject to a 4 month probationary period). Please note this role is not a probationary Co-op Membership.
Hours: Minimum 20 hours per week, maximum 24 hours per week (maximum hours dependent on interest/experience of secondary teams and not guaranteed):
- 2 x 8 hour Baking shifts every Thursday and Friday from 1.00pm – 9.00pm
- Plus 1 x 8hr Baking shift for cover approximately 1-2 times a month depending on cover required/availability (may be a weekday or Saturday, but would be agreed ahead of time)
- Additional hours above 20 hours/week would be subject to interest in secondary team hours – please see details on Job Description document.
We offer:
- a competitive salary – Leeds Bread Co-op has a flat wage structure where everyone is paid the same rate of £24,960.00 pro rata / £12.00/hour, and this is not dependent on experience or negotiation.
- opportunities to develop into other team roles (where available).
- the space to share your passion of baking and it’s benefits through the development and delivery of our education and community activities.
- the opportunity for input into the continued development of the co-op for the benefit of the members and our local community.
Employee Benefits
- Enhanced holiday entitlement of 6.2 weeks per year / 31 days pro rata (3 days more than statutory minimum).
- Access to independent and confidential advice line service through Mindful Employer Plus.
- 40% discount on LBC products.
- 20% discount on other retail products.
- Free loaf of bread per week.
- Use of our van twice per year for personal purposes.
- Access to wholesale / cost price pre-ordered personal goods from our suppliers (such as Suma and That Old Chestnut).
- Refreshments provided on shift – including great coffee and endless toast/snacks
