Do you dream of being in an empowering workplace, set up to benefit the workers who run it and to support their local community? Would you like to be part of a collective team, where you participate in improving how your workplace is run? Are you great with financial information and spreadsheets? Then we want to hear from you!
We are excited to be recruiting a new Co-op Member to join our Finance & HR teams within our well-established workers’ co-op, which specialises in handmade artisan sourdough breads.
The main responsibilities of the role will be to share in the responsibility of overseeing our finances, with a particular focus on financial management, planning and staffing levels.
This is a crucial role within the team – but a rewarding one too. We’re looking for someone with experience of financial modelling, forecasting, and reporting, who is reliable and diligent, with excellent attention to detail. We need someone who can work with complex information and spreadsheets, and is confident in using online accounts software (such as Quickbooks).
We’re a small team and are looking for a new member who is conscientious and well-organised, able to use their initiative and manage their time well. We need someone who can work both independently and be a flexible, responsive and positive team member, someone prepared to work hard within both our Finance team and other teams within Leeds Bread Co-op – and have fun along the way with a good bunch of people!
The role will also include membership of our HR team – at a minimum this would involve sharing oversight and coordination of staffing levels, but depending on the candidate it could involve more hours in the HR team creating, improving and implementing our policies and procedures, and continuing to develop LBC as an ethical and enjoyable workplace for all our workers.
We have a part-time position available, with a minimum 20 hours per week. This will be broken down to 15 hours in our Finance team, and the remaining within our HR Team and Membership work.
An additional (up to) 8 hours per week are available depending on suitability and interest (to be allocated to HR Team and/or Markets & Shop Team), so total hours available are up to 28 hours per week. Please detail your interest for these additional hours within the application form in Section 4.
We are looking for individuals with a drive and enthusiasm to become part of our workers’ co-op, and a keen interest in pursuing Membership. You will join as a probationary member of Leeds Bread Co-op, working towards membership of the Co-op and participating in the work carried out by other teams too. There is opportunity to be involved in other teams within our co-op giving candidates a chance to follow any other interests you may have, either as part of the role continuously or for one-off projects.
Leeds Bread Co-op has a flat wage structure where everyone is paid the same rate of £11.20/hour, and this is not dependent on experience or negotiation. We are continually working to increase this and all members play a key role in making that happen – if the salary level is a barrier to applying, please contact us for an honest conversation.
We provide generous holiday entitlement (6.2 weeks per year pro rata) and other staff benefits including a bread allowance, product discounts, and training opportunities.
Full time annual salary for the Co-op Member is £23,296.00 pro rata (based on 40 hours/week)
