Hello! It’s Monday again so that must mean its time for another letter from lockdown. And this week we are delighted to welcome Nat who works in the bakery office helping to keep everything running smoothly. If you have ever called, emailed or visited the bakery shop in the last year or so then you will definitely have spoken to Nat at some point.
Just before we get to Nat’s letter we just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you all again for the incredible support you have shown our Loaves For Leeds fundraiser, it feels good to know that we are a part of such a kind and compassionate community. We are continuing to do our charity bakes each week and it makes us really happy to know our bread is getting out to those who need it most.
And last but not least, please don’t forget to head over to our instagram to follow Nat’s adventure during furlough throughout this week
“I’ve been working at Leeds Bread Co-op since June 2019 and my role is based in the office working on the day-to-day administration of the business. It’s a busy role with lots of plates to keep spinning and I look forward to every day I get to be there and be a part of the team!
I’ve had previous jobs in support work and education institutions, so I didn’t have much direct experience in a business setting before finding my role at Leeds Bread Co-op! But although I enjoyed aspects of my previous jobs, there was always something missing, which I now realise are the values help within a workers co-operative.
This is the first time I’ve been a part of a co-operative and it’s incredible to work somewhere you truly feel your voice is heard and to work in a collaborative and empowering way with everyone. I’ve definitely been converted to the idea that co-operatives are the future!
While the bakery is closed my days in lockdown have mostly been spent cooking, snacking, reading, walking, more snacking and being fortunate enough to enjoy my garden space. I’ve finally taken the plunge and made my own sourdough starter, and baked a mostly successful loaf! (But I’m having particular withdrawals from the Seedy Sourdough and Cardamom Knots at the moment!)”
